Digitally on holiday: between rest and constant connection
Share

In the past, holidays were synonymous with a total break from work and everyday worries. With the advance of the technological world, the way we enjoy our holidays has changed significantly. It's not uncommon to see the constant presence of smartphones, tablets and digital cameras on holiday. Social networks play a fundamental role, not only in recording special moments, but also in instantly sharing these experiences with friends and followers.

Connectivity everywhere

During holidays, the need to always be connected is often twofold. On the one hand, it makes it easier to organise and discover new destinations by offering maps (Google Maps, for example), recommendations and translations (with Google Translate) in real time.

On the other hand, it allows regular contact with family and friends, maintaining a sense of closeness even thousands of kilometres away. However, there is also a growing demand for ‘conscious disconnection’, which involves setting aside moments to be truly present, away from notifications and the flow of information.

The Influence of Social Media

Social networks continue to transform the way we see and experience holidays. Instagram, Facebook and Tiktok not only serve as means of sharing, but also as sources of inspiration for destinations and activities. Digital influencers reveal lesser-known corners, unique experiences and travel tips that often become a global trend. This demonstrates how digital can intensify the travelling experience, making it more interactive and visual.

However, the constant need to share, reply to messages and check notifications can interrupt the real purpose of holidays: relaxation. The pressure to create perfect content for social networks, or the anxiety of keeping up to date, can even jeopardise the ability to enjoy the present moment.

The Search for Balance

As mentioned earlier, the constant desire to share our holidays with people on social networks has led us to rediscover the value of ‘offline’. Increasingly, there is a growing trend towards more conscious tourism, where a balance is sought between the digital record and pure experience.

Many people opt for periods without electronic devices or create personal rules to limit their time on social media. This practice not only helps to reduce digital stress, but also to savour moments more intensely.

Digital content consumed during the holidays

During the holidays, digital habits tend to adapt to the relaxed pace of rest days. Many people take advantage of this time to consume content that they wouldn't normally be able to follow so closely on a daily basis.

Reading travel, lifestyle or personal development blogs is becoming a popular pastime, as is listening to podcasts while relaxing on the beach, going for a walk or exploring a new city. In addition, streaming series or films continues to make its presence felt, especially when relaxing in the accommodation.

Meditation apps, personalised playlists and even themed newsletters are gaining prominence, helping to create an atmosphere of well-being and leisure. All this shows that, even during the holidays, the connection to the digital world remains - but in a lighter, more selective way and at the service of serenity time.

Our blog also needs to disconnect

After some intense activity, our blog is going on holiday. Like many of our readers and regular digital travellers, our blog also needs a break to recharge its batteries.

We promise to return refreshed and with new knowledge to share with you. In the meantime, we hope you enjoy your time disconnecting and reconnecting with what really matters: moments, memories and the beauty of the real world.

Happy holidays and see you in September!
