The Interview Diaries: 10 Questions with João

We're back with another edition of our Interview Diaries. This time, we introduce João Amador (translates to «Amateur»), but don't let his name fool you; if there's one thing he's not lacking, it's experience in the web world.

The Interview Diaries: 10 Questions with João

João, as well as being one of our web developers, is the company's nightingale who has accustomed us to his singing of songs so indecipherable that not even the best ear could identify them. He has also accustomed us to his ever-present good humour, laughing and making us all laugh. He's also our "Gym Bro" (I apologise for the foreignness), always with his well-stocked lunch portions for energy in the gym, and so well heated that his glass tupperware could almost be moulded again.

Our team already knows João well, and the aim of this section is to introduce our team to our readers. That said, we asked 10 questions that we thought might be interesting to introduce another member of our small (large) team.

  1. If you could switch roles with someone at Softway for a day, who would it be and why?
Pimenta was already mentioned, right? [laughs] I don't want to repeat answers, so... I'd switch with Madalena. Because I really enjoy the client interaction part, and I find pleasure in the challenge of understanding their needs. Besides, it also involves team interaction and management, meaning there's a side to it where you must balance the client's needs with the team's capabilities, and achieving that balance would give me great satisfaction.
  2. If you could have one superpower, what would it be and how would you use it?
Reading other people's thoughts. If I could read other people's thoughts, I could listen to the brightest minds and then I could do the best things that are possible to do.
[But then you'd also hear the less bright as well.]
Well, I know, there would always be good and less good things, but I think it would be a good superpower.
  3. If you could organize a company event, what would be the theme and activities?
So, in June, I'll be celebrating 5 years at Softway, so the theme would be celebrating João's 5 years here at Softway. [laughs] The activities would be paintball and go-karts. But emphasis on celebrating João's 5 years at Softway. [laughs]
  4. What was the last addictive series or movie you watched?
I watched Bullet Train on Netflix last weekend.
  5. What’s your go-to karaoke song?
Being a karaoke enthusiast and a rising star [laughs], I choose the opening song from Dragon Ball GT because it gives me enormous nostalgia when I hear it or sing it. I always remember when I was a kid and spent afternoons watching it.
  6. If you could go back in time, what advice would you give yourself?
Go ahead, take risks without any fear.
  7. What team-building event have you participated in that left the biggest impression on you and why?
It was the boat trip we took in 2022; it was a very fun event and an excellent afternoon of team relaxation.
  8. Imagine suddenly being given the opportunity to be an expert in any field, what would it be and why?
Being a stockbroker and being able to predict the market. I know it's not an exact science, but it would be interesting to be like the wolf of Wall Street and buying Softway stocks. [laughs]
  9. If you were the leader of your country, what would be the first law you'd implement?
The four-day workweek! [laughs] I think mental and physical health are important. Of course, work is important too, but it's very important for people to have more time to spend with their families or their loved ones, and I would also facilitate free access to psychologists because I consider mental health something really important, and everyone should be able to have access to help if they need it.
  10. So now that our interview is coming to an end. What do you like to do to relax after a day of work?
I have a routine after work. I go to the gym every day after work because it not only helps me physically but also mentally. Then I get home, make a good dinner, and sit on the couch to watch a series or movie or play PlayStation online to relieve some of the day's stress, and gain even more when my teammates are bad. [laughs]

We hope this interview helped you get to know our João (who, if he didn't exist, would need to be invented), and this company wouldn't be the same without him. We thank João for sharing his time with us and, to put it simply, for speaking his mind.
